Course Planning
In the spring, course planning is conducted through our Counselling Centre. Our Counsellor meets with classes to walk students through the process of selecting courses for the following year and remind students of the courses/credits necessary to meet the BC Ministry of Education requirements for graduation. The course planning booklet and forms are available attached below or stop by the Counselling Centre to pick up a paper version.
MyEducation:
Current students will need to enter their course requests through the MyEducation Portal by March 16, 2026. If you have forgotten your password or need help logging in please email ats@abbyschools.ca or see Mrs. Clarke in the Counselling Office.

Academic Study Block
An academic Study Block is a privilege reserved for Gr 12 students who are enrolled in two or more AP courses. If you qualify, you can have only one Study Block within the school year. During a Study Block, students are expected to be in one of the following areas: student lounge or Learning Commons.
All applicants must have:
- Excellent attendance in their previous year
- Good work habits
- 2 AP Classes
- NO disciplinary record/issues.
- Students in Grades 9-11 will not be eligible for a Study.
- Students with a history of poor attendance or academic non-performance will be denied a Study Block.
- Taking an online course does not qualify a student for a study block.
Course Changes
Students have one week to request a course change. For first semester, this is the last week of August. For second semester, this is in January. There will not be course changes made after the first two weeks of the semester. The following reasons are legitimate reasons for requesting a course change:
- First priority: Incomplete timetable – you don’t have all 8 courses
- Second priority: missing graduation or university requirements
- Third priority: one or more course(s) were completed at summer school
Changes are dependent on space availability in classes, prerequisites and on timetable restrictions.
The counsellor will receive your summer school course completion and marks and will be making changes to your timetable accordingly. However, if you requested a course and then chose to take it at summer school, please be aware that we may not be able to change your schedule. Your schedule may only be changed for courses that are fully complete such as summer school. AVS or other online courses which are in progress are not considered complete and as such you may need to stay in the course.
IF timetables to 12’s are handed out in June – please aware that if you take a course during the summer that you have requested to take at school, we may not be able to change their schedules. If they requested the course, they should plan on taking the course here at ATS.
Why didn’t I get all the courses I requested? Your timetable will be built based on our course selections in March. Where one of your selections conflicted with another course, we used your alternates to the best of our ability to provide a replacement course. Every effort will be made to honour your request working within class size and composition requirements. An updated timetable will be available in your homeroom and on myEducationBC on the first day of school. Please look over your timetable to ensure that you have 8 courses plus any outside the timetable classes.
Which priority is your course request?
Our counsellor will receive your summer school course completion and marks and will be making every effort to adjust your timetable accordingly. Only courses that are fully complete will be considered; as summer school. AVS courses which are in progress are not considered complete.
